Remarks: Vampire A79-603, previously operated by No 2 Flying Training School (2FTS) is shown displayed on a post outside the RAAF Pearce Officers Mess in 1985. Appropriately, the street at rear is 'Vampire Street'. Similar Vampires were also operated by Central Flying School (CFS) based at RAAF East Sale, Victoria, and for weapons training at RAAF Williamtown NSW. The aircraft was painted Silver, with DayGlo on the nose, wingtips and fins. A79-603 was Delivered to RAAF in April 1958. The aircraft was to become an Instructional Airframe about 1994. Rare low res photo. Apologies for the quality of this 24 year old photo.
Remarks: Weather-worn RAAF Vampire A79-830 languishes at RAAF Fairbairn in 1983. 'Open air storage' has exposed the ply-wood in the fuselage and she lacks the cockpit canopy. This Vampire had seen better days. A79-830 was Delivered in April 1955, and after retirement she was allotted to RAAF Fairbairn for 'Display'. She was not in 'Display Condition'. Can anyone please advise what happened to this aircraft? (RAAF Vampire aircraft were usually painted Silver, with DayGlo on the nose, wingtips and fins.) Rare low res photo. Apologies for the quality of this 26 year old photo.
Remarks: The Telstars Aerobatic Team Leader's Vampire A79-637 overflies the airfield inverted, after the team performed a 'Break' at the end of their 1965 Laverton display. The Team was operated by Central Flying School (CFS) based at RAAF East Sale. The aircraft were painted Silver, with DayGlo on the nose, wingtips and fins. The Team was named after a space Satellite called 'Telstar'. A79-637 was Delivered to RAAF in March 1959, and Sold to Arnold Glass in June 1970. I photographed the aircraft at HARS Wollongong (WOL) in Mar 2008, undergoing restoration. Rare low res photo. Apologies for the quality of this 43 year old photo.
Remarks: Royal Australian Navy - Fleet Air Arm 60th Anniversary Air Show. Aircraft repainted by the Temora Aviation Museum to represent A79-842 code 805 (NW), a Sea Vampire, for this event.
