Remarks: Shot off the Checkerboard hill looking down on the skyscapers which are also shown on this special scheme worn by this aircraft ,scaned from a photograph
Remarks: Here is a blast from the past!! The Spirit Of Hong Kong 1997. Painted to commemorate the handover of Hong Kong from British back to Chinese rule.
Remarks: There aren't many photos of VR-HIB before it was reregistered as B-HIB. I still think it's one of the best liveries ever worn by a 747. Sadly, this aircraft has now been scrapped after spending time with Air Atlanta Icelandic as TF-ATC.
Remarks: Not the best quality I know, but interesting nonetheless. My heart raced as I saw this approach, as it was very very low. The 747 continued to descend but fortunately landed safely. This was taken during a typhoon which reached a number 9 signal a few hours later (Indicating a direct hit is likely).
Remarks: The first special coloured aircraft Cathay ever did, and what a nice one it was too! The Spirit Of Hong Kong 1997 was done to commemorate the handing over of Hong Kong back to Chinese rule from the British. Later, 747-400 B-HOX was painted up in a similar scheme but with playing kids projected on top of the skyline in 2000 to commemorate the millenium. Now the only special scheme we have is on 747-400 B-HOY, Asia's World City. Hopefully when Disneyland Hong Kong opens later this year there will be some special colours done!
Remarks: Only the second photo of VR-HIB before it was painted into the attractive and famous Spirit Of Hong kong 97 livery. Sadly, this aircraft has been broken up after flying for Air Atlanta Iceland.
Remarks: 1997 marked the handover of Hong Kong from British rule back to China, and Cathay painted an aircraft up in "Spirit of Hong Kong 1997" to commemorate this event. In my opinion, one of the best ever colours schemes to grace a 747.
