This aircraft, on 05 April 2009 experienced a fatal crash into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Long Island, NY, while practicing low level aerobatics. The owner / pilot did not survive and the aircraft was never recovered.

Remarks: Rob Baranaskas brings home this wounded Warhawk early from the 2008 Jones Beach Air Show. If you look closely, you can see the oil on the fuselage just aft of the engine. Calm, cool, & collected Rob was able to bring this Warhawk home so that it may fly another day.
Remarks: Bob Baranaskas returns his P-40 to Republic following a major oil leak while performing at Jones Beach during the Memorial Day air show. Bob lost his helmet while trying to see around his oil covered windscreen, yet made a safe landing.
Remarks: At the close of Pearl Harbor Day ceremonies at the American Airpower Museum, this P-40 departs, part of the escort for an SNJ which would drop 65 roses at the Statue of Liberty in honor of all those lost on that day of infamy.
