Remarks: It was disappointing that 'Fifi' didn't fly during the Defenders of Liberty 2011 show, but just seeing her back on the circuit was good enough. Miss the bare metal, though.
Remarks: Captain Dale “Snort” Snodgrass - the solo pilot - got insanely low during Heavy Metal's demos at Defenders of Liberty. Seems like he was using the day-glo yellow vested photographers on the field as targets of opportunity.
Remarks: Bill Stein gave me a glimpse into his world during a low, inverted pass during a practice run. The way his aircraft is lit is due to the light being reflected off pavement. I was standing on the side of Taxiway Bravo when this shot was made.
Remarks: Randy Ball brings his MiG-17F back to show center after his act. Imagine back in 1961 telling Barksdale AFB a MiG would not only buzz the field, but would taxi to the ramp to thunderous applause. You'd be hanged for treason!
