Remarks: This Tri-Pacer was built in March 1956 and registered new as N4500A. It was completely rebuilt in 1989, but cancelled on 23 March 1990 and exported to Australia where it became VH-NLA on 4 September. It spent some time in the Melbourne area before moving to Alice Springs in 2001. In 2003 it moved back to Kyneton where it currently resides in the hands of my mate Gleeso. Remarks: The world's only airworthy Merlin-powered P-40F at the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's Christmas Toy Run with Mustang VH-JUC. Built to a 1941 USAAC order as 41-14112. Shipped to the Pacific. Based at Efate with 44 FS/18 FG & named 'Bonecrusher'. Force-landed on Erromango 20 Dec 42 on a training flight. Recovered Nov 89 & shipped to Australia. Acquired by Judy Pay 1990 & restored. Reg'd VH-HWK 30 Jul 96.
Remarks: Surely the best colour scheme going around on a Harvard today? Although painted in this superb USN scheme, this aircraft was actually built as AT-6C Harvard Mk II, USAAF 41-33767, to an RAF order (EX794). It was, however, shipped straight to New Zealand in August 1943 and became NZ1051. It served with the RNZAF until 1978 when it was sold. Remarks: Not a gear problem: just an artefact of the Nanchang undercarriage retraction sequence! This aircraft flew with the Chinese PLAAF with code '76'. It was sold and shipped to Australia in July 1990. Restored, it was registered VH-NNC on 26 October 1993. Remarks: Landing after a display sortie at the Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia's annual Charity Toy Run. This is really the former RAAF A68-105 which was taken on charge on 21-11-47 and struck off charge at Tocumwal on 23-4-58. It was saved from scrapping and passed through a series of owners until restored to fly at Tyabb, Vic, between 1990-98. It is painted in the wartime markings of 3 Squadron, RAAF.
