Remarks: AA-210 based at Chico (CIC) and flown by airshow performer Patty Wagstaff along with an air tactical group supervisor who acts as an air controller, in the backseat, sitting on the ramp at Stead after working a few lightning caused fires in the area. Smoke from the fires mixed with the storm cells created some interesting light. ex: 155459 with US Navy.
Remarks: Tanker 810 in loading pit 2 awaiting waiting to be loaded with a fresh load of retardant while fighting a couple of lighting caused wildfires in the area while one of the storms passes by to the east. The large propellor in the background is a tribute to Tanker 09 which crashed just northwest of the airport on September 1, 2008.
Remarks: Jim Thomas rolling out in "Happy Hour" on runway 08 after a qualifying session where he put Race 26 into 18th place at the 2009 Reno National Championship Air Races.
Remarks: Pilot Lynn Farnsworth taxiing out Sport Race 44 "Miss Karen II" for qualifying at the 2008 Reno National Championship Air Races. Lynn would end up qualifying 12th out of 23 entries with a time of 01:24.685 and speed of 297.539mph.
Remarks: Richard Beardsley in Biplane Race 77 "Rich's Brew" coming around inner pylon 5 during Heat 2B. He would end up placing fifth in this heat with a time of 06:44.980 and an average speed of 169.4 mph.
Remarks: Despite its home base being just an hour and a half south of Reno I could never seem to catch Tanker 48. Finally after two years of trying I was able to get quite a few photos of 48, especially in the last few months of fire season due to the amount of fires in the area. One of those fires was the "Rush Fire", which burned a total 315,577 acres in Northeastern California and Northwestern Nevada. The 271,911 acres burned in California means this fire was the second-largest fire in modern California history (since accurate record keeping began in 1932). Tanker 48 is shown here lifting off of runway 26 en route to the "Rush Fire" with the smoke from another Northern California fire, the "Chips Fire" making for a very hazy August afternoon.
Remarks: Sport class Race 33 arriving at the 2008 Reno National Championship Air Races. Pilot Rod von Grote would end up finishing fourth in the Sport Super Gold on Sunday with a time of 07:28.173 and an average speed of 344.162.
Remarks: Then owned by the lead singer of the band "Offspring", Dexter Holland, this registration is now showing de-registered after being exported to Mexico and reserved for a different aircraft according to the FAA database.
