Remarks: A sailboat glides the beautiful Caribbean waters at sunset as a Winair Islander lines up for runway 09 after the short flight from St. Barthelemy.
Remarks: Even the seagoers get into the act in St. Maarten, as one boat has dropped anchor and another is about to, just off the end of runway 09 in Maho Bay. A G-IV gives them a show as it approaches Princess Juliana Airport.
Remarks: Fellow JP.net contributor and administrator Chris Starnes, looking stylish (as always) in his newly donned Hawaiian shirt, gets down low for the perfect wide angle shot as this welcome charter from Boston arrives early on a gorgeous Saturday morning in the Netherlands Antilles!
Remarks: A lady who would most likely be in a position to take advantage of the 'free drinks' at the Sunset Beach Bar takes notice as Continental arrives from Newark over the Caribbean waters.
Remarks: Any place with a sign reading "Warning! Low Flying and Departing Aircraft. Blast Can Cause Physical Injury" must be cool! The light could have been a little bit better (and was, about 10 seconds later), but it was still a nice surprise to see this classic jumbo over Maho Beach, operating for Corsair on the Orly-St. Maarten route, which is normally flown by one of Corsair's 747-300s.
Remarks: A unique perspective from just below an arriving jetliner is made possible by a 10mm lens, and very interesting by the scenic surroundings of St. Maarten.
Remarks: The Sunset Beach Bar now features an 'attractive' surfboard showing the estimated arrival times of the more noteworthy flights at Juliana for the day. It also features another very important message .. open the large photo to see what it is! ;-)
Remarks: These fine ladies were more interested in sunning and relaxing for most of the day, but even they can't resist taking notice of the gleaming American 757 passing over Maho Beach!
Remarks:"Life at its finest." A beautiful beach, some fine looking ladies, a festive atmosphere, a few bottles of Carib, and the airplane viewing deck at the Sunset Beach Bar. This is what St. Maarten is all about. Beachgoers and barflies alike get a great view of Air Transat as she arrives from Montreal on a glorious Saturday afternoon.
Remarks: A father and his son were the only people on Maho Beach at about 11am on this Saturday morning as the first Canadian charter of the day glides over the brilliant waters of the Caribbean Sea.
Remarks: Departing St. Maarten by air is always a thrill, and this case was no exception! The beautiful Juliana Airport is seen as we continue our right turn westbound over the sparkling waters of the Caribbean. On the ground at Juliana: two American 757s, two US Airways 757s, an Air France A340-300, a Sun Country 737-800, some assorted island-hoppers, and around 30 corporate jets. Can you see them all? [1600x1165]
Remarks: One of my first photographs upon arriving at SXM, as KLM glides over Maho Beach just minutes after we stepped out of our taxi at the Sunset Beach Bar! I'm glad we caught this one, because KLM's Saturday arrival from Amsterdam was delayed almost 6 hours, arriving at around 8:30pm!
Remarks: Typical lack of on-time performance by Corsair at St. Maarten worked in our favor today, as this flight was actually due in an hour and 15 minutes before ours. Seen arriving just over two hours late from Orly, this beautiful jumbo reflects the sparkling waters of the Caribbean nicely as she glides over Maho Beach.
Remarks: It's not a 747... but this was the lowest arrival I have ever seen in St. Maarten! 636MF is no more than 10 feet above the beach at this point, and would just barely clear the fence on its way to a 'quick' landing on runway 09. This one got a few screams out of beachgoers and barflies at the Sunset Beach Bar!
