Remarks: The plate on the monument says: "This aircraft tail was taken from a Boeing 720 aircraft registration EL-AKD which retired from the skies at Shannon Airport on 28, January 1991 having made its last flight from Beirut. During its working life working life the aircraft was owned by American Airlines, registration number N7544A. It was the 195th Boeing 720 to be built (15.3.1961) and commenced operations on 10.4.1961. It is appropriate that this particular tail should commemorate a milestone in Shannon's history because American Overseas Airlines was the first transatlantic passenger flight to land in Shannon in 1945."
