Remarks: This beautiful, magnificent and historic beast has recently emerged from restoration to fly again. Powered by a Lycoming R-680 of 245 hp, she was imported by Vacuum Oil (later Mobil, as you can see under the wings) and registered on 13 Oct 1936. Used as a utility aircraft until sold in 1939. Impressed by RAAF 1941 as A38-1. Demobbed and sold 1948. Several owners until re-registered VH-KAF 1957. Ended up in Drage Airworld museum at Wangaratta & sold to present owner several years ago when museum collapsed.
Remarks: Built to USAAF order as 42-104687 but diverted to the RNZAF as Kittyhawk Mk IV NZ3215. Sold for scrap post-War and remained Asplin's Supplies, Rukuhia NZ, 1952-60. Rescued and hulk eventually purchased by Allan Arthur and exported to Australia. Restoration work at Wangaratta and Deniliquin. Restoration completed at Ardmore, NZ, 2004-6. Registered ZK-ZOC 6 April 06 (ff 11 April). Shipped to Australia Aug 06 and registered VH-ZOC 21 September 2006.
Remarks: Originally built for the USAAF in 1945 as a Douglas C–47B–30DK and allocated the serial 44-76552. Cn amended due to inadvertent duplication. Shipped immediately to Australia and taken on RAAF charge as A65-91 on 6 April 1945. Served with the RAAF until 15 Jan 1986 when sold to Golden West Airways. Registered VH-TMQ 28 Aug 1988 to Collbrina Transport, but left to deteriorate at Essendon Airport. Acquired by Air Nostalgia 1 July 1996 and restored - first flight 31 March 2000.
Remarks: Winch launch with impressive rate of climb. With its wingspan of 20m this glider has a drag ratio of 1:48, which means a rate of descent of 0,51m/s.
