Melissa Pemberton side-slips over Avalon’s Rwy 18 in Zivko Edge 540 VH-IIG Cn 0019 (with Skip Stewart in ‘Flaming’ Pitts S-2S Special N540S ‘tail-gating’ in opposite side-slip at rear), just before Rich Gibson’s trademark ‘Wall of Fire’ made a spectacular fiery backdrop. Remarks: Head-On view of RAAF 10 Squadron AP-3C Orion A9-755 Cn 5664, doing an orbit with No 4 engine shut down (and propeller feathered.) Not surprisingly, there are only 3 smoke trails behind the aircraft. 'Loitering' on three engines is a routine procedure which saves fuel and extends range. Remarks: A waning three-quarter moon provided a backdrop for aircraft flying at the 2013 Avalon International Airshow on Sunday morning 03Mar2013. Trans Australia Airlines (TAA's) first DC-3, VH-AES Cn 6021 (flown by Hawdon Operations), crosses the moon while turning to Stbd during a graceful handling display at 1053 hrs.

Two aircraft were programmed to do a synchronized display, but the second aircraft was unserviceable for the 3 public days of the Airshow. I believe that this was the first visit to Australia by the team.
Remarks: UK Palletways Balloon mascot ‘Slick the Dragon’, attached to a Box on a Pallet, does a tethered flight on the second Public Day day of the 2012 Farnborough Airshow on 14Jul2012. (The balloon is tied to several vehicles by ropes.) Lindstrand Balloons ‘Special Shape’ LBL Box SS G-PLLT Cn 1308 was a hit with the kids at the Airshow ‘Playground’.

Remarks: RAAF 37 Sqn C-130J-30 A97-468 Cn 382-5468 did a ‘stealthy night-time arrival’ at Avalon during the fireworks display. The Hercules then crossed Avalon's Rwy 18/36 heading West, and generated her own fireworks, by firing a burst of ‘Infra-red self-protection’ flares.
