Remarks: Low Res early morning view of DH-82A VH-CXY (Cn LES10, First Reg Aust 24Aug1961), before a 'Ferry Flight' from Canberra to Parafield, South Aust. (Mt Ainslie is at rear right.) The trip route was YSCB - Narrandera (3.0 hrs), YNAR - Balranald (2.4hrs), YBRN -Mildura (1.2 hrs), YMIA -Williamstown SA (2.6 hrs) and Williamstown - Parafield YPPF (0.3 hrs). The aircraft belonged to a 5 Squadron Huey Pilot, who was being posted to Vietnam and couldn't do the ferry flight himself. The aircraft has a 'Pseudo -RAAF' livery with a Tricolor rudder, and an old RAAF Roundel on the Stbd fuselage. (The Tiger Moth is still Registered in 2009, in Melbourne.) Remarks: The historic Final Flight of a Caribou in RAAF Service (and world's last). Caribou A4-140, Delivered to 38 Squadron in March 1964, Retired on 27Nov2009 after 45 years faithful service. The 38 Squadron Caribou did a Flypast over the Australian War Memorial (AWM) and Canberra Airport before its final landing. The aircraft, with special Retirement logos on tail and nose, taxies in for handover to the AWM at a Ceremony at Canberra Airport. The YSCB Control Tower is visible at rear. Remarks: Rare low res view of RAAF Aircraft Research and Development Unit (ARDU) UH-1H A2-485 at RAAF Fairbairn in 1987. The helo (Del: Jun1970) had been painted White for Service with the Multi-National Force of Observers (MFO) at El Gorah in the Sinai from 1982-86. (The helo crashed into power lines near Queanbeyan NSW on 17Nov1977. She was later repaired and returned to 5 Squadron Fairbairn.) Apologies for the quality of this 22 year old photo.
