Remarks: This is the only photo online from inside the terminal at Modlin airport, and may well be the only one for a while whilst the airport remains closed only 4 months after opening. Built on an old air force base, Modlin is designed as the low-cost airport serving Warsaw and the terminal itself was very functional in this regard. However, problems with the quality of the runway have lead to Wizz Air and Ryanair (the first 2 operators) removing their flights at this time.
Remarks: A rare overview of Manston as we climb out from RWY27, with a ex-Kuwait Airways 747 parked in storage along with an Embraer Legacy and a 707. Manston has been a sleepy mainly cargo airport for many years since EU Jet suspended operations in 2005. However, things are looking up at KLM have recently announced a service to AMS - you can see the passenger terminal at the top right of the shot.
Remarks: Joining crosswind for RWY21 at Wickenby after a flight from Elvington. RAF Wickenby was a purpose built bomber base constructed late 1942 and it lives on as a popular GA airfield with the former control tower now forming a museum and clubhouse. The current (quite short) runways are portions of the old runways, the rest of which have been dug up and returned to agricultural land.
Remarks: The unique lines of the Trident seen from the perspective of a boarding passenger. This particular Trident flew for BEA up until 1982 when it operated it's final London-Manchester shuttle service and was retired to Duxford.
Remarks: G-ALWF was the second production Viscount and was slightly larger than the prototype. It made its first flight in December 1952 and was handed over to BEA in February 1953, fitted with 40 seats in an all-first class interior. This was later changed to a 63-seat high density layout as seen in this shot. Those windows even put the 787 windows to shame.
Remarks: If you use your imagination to ignore all of the airshow clutter, you can imagine what it would have been like to board one of these huge propliners in the 1970's at the beginning of your package holiday in Spain.
