Remarks: Presidential candidate Mitt Romney arriving for a campaign speech at the Reno Events Center. Show here on short final for 16L as the remnants of an early season storm that had dusted the mountains with a few inches of snow hang around Peavine Mountain.
Remarks: Sitting on the ramp at Stead awaiting its next tasking. The last photo in the database of this helicopter is from nearly seven years ago taken by my friend Andre Urruty from nearly the same location (http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=559938), but in a different scheme. Crazy how things can work out like that!
Remarks: This Voodoo was delivered to USAF in 1961, then went to the Royal Canadian Air Force as 17483 in 1962. It was returned to the USAF in 1971 and was converted to the an RF-101B that same year. Now displayed inside the 152nd Airlift Wing base at RNO. Photographed at their great open house.
Remarks: Boise State Broncos scheme completing the visual part of the ILS for 16R during a storm that would end up dropping 2 feet of snow in parts of Reno with 14 inches being reported at the airport itself.
Remarks: Boeing's "ecoDemonstrator" aircraft, a collaboration with American Airlines, Boeing, and the FAA on short final to 16L as "Boeing 730 (BOE730)".More information on this bird can be found here: http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=2414
Remarks: "Delta 8964 Heavy" (DAL8964) climbing off of 34L with a load of Marines en route to KCEF (Westover ARB).
This will also be my 600th photo if accepted! 1600px
Remarks: Tanker 40, the first of what will be many BAe-146's taxiing in to the Reno-Stead tanker base for the first time while committed to the "Como" fire south and east of Dayton, NV. Before being converted into an air tanker, this BAe-146 was with Air Wisconsin as N608AW. The BAe-146s seem to be a good fit to replace the aging P-2 Neptune in the fire bomber role. Neptune itself plans to have up to 11 of the quad-jets to replace its P-2s in the next few years. Other companies such as Air Spray Aviation Services, Conair, and Minden Aviation (based an hour south of Reno) are in the process of converting their own BAe-146s as well. I also want to thank the crew for letting me take a peek inside despite the limited time while the first load of retardant was being loaded.
