Very nice foto, but the registration PP-PDD is ficticious. The correct registration is N86533 (the last, and actual) to International Caribbean Corp 1965. Now a little history for you and others about this wonderful plane:
Final registration - N86533
Delivered KLM as L049 PH-TAX June 1946 but remained at Burbank for additional mods
Re-registered PH-TDA and delivered KLM "Arnhem" September 1946
Traded to Lockheed for L749A's June 1950
To Capital Airlines as N86533 "Capitaliner Atlantan" August 1950
Retired by Capital and stored by December 1960
To Modern Air Transport September 1961
To Rymar of Montevideo June 1965 (still registered N86533)
Leased to International Caribbean Corp August 1965
Impounded for smuggling at PG Stroessner Airport, Asuncion, Paraguay September 1965
Stored at airport until April 1975 when it was painted in an overall yellow color scheme and put on display
Disassembled and transported to Sao Carlos, Brazil in 2000 for display at TAM's "Brazilian Wings of a Dream Museum"
Arrived at museum on December 13, 2000 after a thirty-day trip by road from Asuncion on six flat bed trucks
Aircraft had been vandalized in Asuncion and parts were stolen at the border, including the prop spinners
Assembled and back on undercarriage by November 2001
To be painted in 1950's era Panair do Brasil color scheme in TAM's new paint facility at Sao Carlos
Inauguration of museum scheduled for November 11/12, 2006, the 100th anniversary of Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont's first flight
On display inside the museum in Panair do Brasil colors and false registration PP-PDD by November 2006 |
